I want to wish you all a very merry Christmas!
This year I decided to try to take the commercialism out of our Christmas here at The Wooly Thread. There weren't any Christmas specials, discounts, or countdowns. There were no urgent emails offering great deals. No daily reminders of just so many days left until Christmas.
The results.......we've had our best December ever and just about the best month of the year, so a big THANK YOU to all of you who support us. I appreciate you all so much and look forward to another great year with you in 2014.
Merry Christmas and God bless you. Over and out!
The next issue of Ottobre will be released in mid-January. Here is a look at some of what you'll see.....
Please remember that prices are going up on the first of the year, so if you want this issue or a subscription, let us know before the end of the year.
It seems I've neglected to mention here that we recently opened an Etsy shop. There are just a few items so far. Some you have seen before on our website, but others are brand new and have never been listed. If you are interested, take a look:
On a somewhat less cheery note :( .... Ottobre has just announced that they will implement a price increase starting January 1st. It will come to about 9.6% more than the current prices. So, if you'd like to renew - even if you are not quite yet due to renew - you may do so before the end of the year and lock in the current price. More details will be in our next newsletter.
Just had to share this sweet note I received from a customer who just bought our 'Wooly Toes' product:
"I have awful hammertoes, and my feet are always killing me when I have to wear pumps or other "adult" shoes. In winter, my feet are freezing. YOU have solved both problems in a way that is affordable and accessible!"
If you read our newsletter, you saw that we are in the midst of our 'Deal of the Week' which ends on Friday, Nov 8th - buy 3 rolls of Swedish tracing paper and get the 4th free - all sent priority mail, but be sure to mention the deal to get it.
Getting ready to send out our November 1st email and wanted to invite you to subscribe. Our newsletter is ONLY sent out on the 1st of every month and we never release your contact info to anyone.
If you'd like to get our newsletter sent directly to your inbox, just let us know - if not, we'll post a link to it here early in the month.
Either way, stay tuned.....
If you have ever gone to our 'deep discounts' page on our website, you know we have some great deals on some of the older back issues of Inspirations magazine. This time we managed to find a few copies of issue 58. If you are interested, check it out on our website: www.woolythread.com
Here's a little more about you'll find in this soon-to-be-released winter issue.
The issues with underwear are always very popular and this is one of those issues.
When winter winds are blowing, wool keeps you nice and warm! Lovely jackets sewn from wool knits and fuzzy faux fur, and an ultra-warm fleece hoodie. Comfortable pants and tops plus special-occasion dresses for young children. A much-requested lovely tulle skirt.
Baby clothes in the casual, uncomplicated Scandinavian style. A jersey dress, a bodysuit and a coverall made with colorful organic-cotton knits and including sizes for newborns. Pants, a bonnet hat and a sleep sack sewn from the season's softest sweatshirt knits.
JUST A LITTLE SMARTER THAN CASUAL
Older children dress up for special occasions in a casual style. A bold cardigan and a denim shirt for boys. A frilled top, a skirt, a blazer and a patchwork jersey dress for girls.
WAKE UP BEFORE YOU GO!
Comfortable underwear from soft organic-cotton jersey, including long johns, leggings, T-shirts, camisoles and panties. Sizes for all children, ranging from toddlers to teenagers. Sizes 92-170 cm
Based on an article from the front page of today's NY Times, the American textile industry is coming back....
Along with our shipment of Inspirations #79 came a few copies of one of the very earliest issues of Inspirations magazine - issue #4 from 1994. They are brand new and have never been used. I only have a few, so if you want one, let me know. I'm offering them here and on our Facebook page first, so they aren't on our website. Price $15./each.
Another shipment of our hand felted wool cat caves has arrived. Since each one is hand made in Europe, so it can take a while to re-stock, but they are back. If your cat has been waiting..... let us know.
Also our newsletter comes out tomorrow with more new products. See you then....
In addition to the adorable Trish Burr kits shown below that should be arriving any day now (I'm stalking our postal carrier), I have also found a new and unknown (to me) designer in Sweden who makes adorable crewel wool embroidery kits. I'll present them in our August 1st newsletter.
Our second order of Trish Burr kits arrived! Just 5 days after they were mailed!! Back orders will be sent out first. I'll post more about these newest kits when I have all the thread packs put together.
Our next shipment of Trish Burr kits is on its way. We'll be getting more of the super popular "Bluebirds on a Branch", as well as, two new ones: "Sacred Kingfisher" and "Chinese Bird and Flower". I hope they arrive as quickly as the last order. I'll announce their arrival here and post them on our website when they arrive. The last shipment sold out before I could even get them on our website!
Now that I can manage our new updated website myself, I'm able to adjust prices right away in keeping up with the exchange rate. The price of Ottobre subscriptions just dropped a couple of dollars! YEAH !
If you haven't seen our new re-vamped website.....here it is:
We've expanded our inventory of the wool dryer balls to included colored ones (turquoise, orange, purple) along with natural ones we've always had. They are also available in a cardboard box or a cloth bag. Will update the website shortly to show the changes.
Our order of felted wool nests from South Africa arrived today. I didn't waste any time hanging mine ourside on a tree in hopes of attracting a bird. We'll see how it goes in the next week or two. My first impression was that the nests were bigger than I imagined they would be. The one in this photograph is about 6 inches across. The 'tail' used to hang it about 30 inches long - much longer than I expected.
Our give-away today is a Jenny McWhinney embroidery kit from Inspirations magazine. This kit is for a square pillow embroidered with a basketball motif. The project first appeared in Inspirations magazine issue #38. The magazine is included in this offer. Just pay the postage of $10 and it goes to the first one who asks. This offer is posted on both Facebook and our blog, but there is only one.
Today we have about 20 of Country Bumpkin's "Learn to Smock" booklets by Margie Bauer. These would be great for a smocking group or for someone learning to smock. As with the other offerings, this is free - just $3 postage for a single copy. Contact us about postage rates for more.
The 'Deal of the Day' today is Country Bumpkin's William Morris
Applique Calendar. I have 20 to give away for the cost of postage which is $7. It's chockfull of beautiful appliqued quilt photographs. Get 2 for $ $10 shipping or 3 for $13.
The countdown in on.......
Every day until Valentine's Day, I'm going to be giving away something. Today it is Country Bumpkin's Inspirations Book "Stitch It: Quilts". Just pay the postage ($6) and it's yours. So, who wants it?
