Here's what you will find in the upcoming winter issue of Ottobre Design magazine for children;
Winter clothes for the little ones with a nostalgic flavor: dresses, skirts, tops and pants. Sweet special-occasion coats for babies and toddlers.
IN A FAIRY-TALE MOOD
The winter collection for preschoolers captures the spirit of fairy-tales. Tops, pants, dresses and jackets. Duffle coats and girls’ dress coats for the winter.
A LITTLE LUXURY
The schoolchildren’s winter collection is pepped up with a pinch of glamour.
Snazzy special-occasion clothes and lovely knits make up wonderful outfits.
Look what I found! These adorable little buttons (3/4") are hand embroidered sheep on linen. I only have one set of 4. If you want this set, let me know and I'll send it to you - $20 total. Since they are handmade they vary ever so slightly from the ones in the photograph. Hand made in USA.
Well, we just got the word that Country Bumpkin is coming out with a new book called Blissful Beginnings: Embroidered Blankets to Cherish. It's due out in December and looks like a winner to me. I'll post more details about it in our October 1st newsletter. In the meantime, here's a look at the cover.
We were expecting the final issue of ASE magazine and the Index later this month, but just got the following message from Country Bumpkin:
"Just to keep you updated we had 2 shipping delays with AS&E # 100 and the Index. Unfortunately delivery to us will now be the end of September so you are looking at a delivery of early October. Sorry about that. Unfortunately vessel delay's are out of our control."
So, I'm now planning on early to mid-October for delivery.
Country Bumpkin's Needle Guide. It's a two-sided 8.5" x 5/5" plastic coated card - picture shows both sides of this single card. Click on the picture to enlarge it. We only have a few, so if you want one just let us know. They are not on our website. They are $7 - free postage.
A customer who bought our new dryer balls shown below just wrote me about hers. For those of you who are not so sure about these, I'm passing along her comments:
"Just wanted to mention, not sure if you've had any feedback on the dryer balls or not, but I am totally amazed at how soft my laundry is coming out by using them. I don't remember reading on what they were for, just liked the idea of them, rather than the noisy hard rubber balls I've used in the past. I even did a load of old towels without softener to see if I was imagining it. Still so soft to the touch. This will save on softeners for sure. Very surprisingly pleased! Welcome to share."
The women's fall/winter issue will be released later next month, but here's a look at what you'll find in this next issue:
- a charming outfit featuring wool fabrics and knits
- a splendid special-occasion outfit for a chamber musician
- the most beautiful cardigans, jackets and coats of the season
- pattern for lady-fit jeans in sizes 34-52. We designed it to flatter a woman's curvy waist and hips, while smoothing her shape!
We have an oversupply of some Inspirations and Ottobre Design magazines, so we are offering you a discount, in order to make room for the new issues arriving soon. Here's what we have:
Inspirations #73, and
Ottobre Design - issue 6/2007
The magazines are $10 each with free shipping while supplies last or until this time next week - July 24th - whichever comes first. The offer is not on our website, so let us know via email if you want one or more of these magazines.
Our newest dryer balls are here......
These wool dryer balls are a natural, eco-friendly laundry product that helps circulate and separate clothing while tumble drying. The more you use, the less time it takes to dry a load of laundry. Start with using at least 3 and build up to having 6 - 8 to reduce your dry time by 10% -25%. Each one weighs about 2 oz and is about 9.5" around.
* Ideal for all laundry especially cloth diapers and baby clothes
* Naturally softens fabrics
* Reduces static and drying time
* Handmade in USA using 100% domestic wool

Our own 'Wool & Hoop' (whose kits and book we stock) will be at The Urban Craft Center in Santa Monica, this Saturday, March 17th to teach a two hour crewel embroidery workshop. They'll be bringing their crewelwork samples including a sneak preview of the new projects from the upcoming book, New Crewel, which comes out in late May. After a brief introduction to the basics and history of crewel embroidery, they'll demonstrate eight different crewel stitches and finishing techniques. Participants will receive all the supplies needed to get started -- linen fabric, wool thread, needles and a hoop. My Wool & Hoop kits and first book, The New Crewel, which offers 30 original designs, 15 fun projects, and 16 classic embroidery stitches, will also be available for sale. The class is $65 and runs from 11am -1pm. All skill levels welcome. Here's a link for more info:

We were not able to get the required 20 people to commit to purchasing the Home Sweet Home kits, so we will not be ordering them. You can get them directly from Country Bumpkin and from what I know, they are available and ready to ship. Sorry we couldn't work it out to import them.
Well, we now have 8 people committed to this kit mentioned in a recent post. Country Bumpkin has said I must order 20.
Any groups out there that want to do this project? Ask around and if we can get 12 more, I'll place the order and have them sent express - getting them in just a few days. I'll give it until the end of this week, so those who want it can order on their own if we can't get a bulk order.
Here's the newest information about the "Home Sweet Home" kit:
Country Bumpkin has made gathering
the embroidery supplies for the cottage workbox and nine accessories
really simple and done it for you. This kit includes all the fabrics,
ribbons, embroidery threads and charms you need to complete the
embroidery for the box and the nine accessories (book and construction
supplies not included).
So, if we can get 20 of you to commit to buying this kit, we will be able to import it for you and offer it for the same price as CB sells it - US$400+. The advantage is you not having to pay the high shipping costs from Australia. Right now we have 7 people interested. If you are interested, let us know. We'll post next week if we were able to get 20 commitments, so that if we don't get 20, those interested can purchase it directly. If we do get 20 commitments, we'll require a 50% deposit before ordering. Hope to hear from you.
For information about the Treasure of the Month option, see our March newsletter.
Here's the information we received from Country Bumpkin yesterday:
After careful consideration Country Bumpkin Publications has made the extremely difficult decision to discontinue publishing Australian Smocking & Embroidery magazine. The final issue of this publication will be issue 100 which is due for release on the 29th August 2012.
Issue 100 will be a collectors issue with ‘best of’ articles, a history of Country Bumpkin and articles from both Susan O’Connor and Margie Bauer, Country Bumpkin’s original founder.
No on subscribing through us will lose any money paid for her subscription. If you have a current sub and want to renew, so you can get this final issue, it will run through the final issue #100 and the price will be adjusted accordingly. If you already have a subscription which extends past issue 100, you will be refunded for any issues not sent.
If you want this special final issue and don't have a subscription, please let us know as soon as you can, so we try to get one for everyone who wants it.
If you have any questions, just let us know.
We greatly appreciate the 'heads up' from Country Bumpkin with 3 issues still left before ceasing publication.
We finally have some information for you about the kits for the new Home Sweet Home project book by Country Bumpkin. Here is what they have to say:
We have finished pricing up the kit. Thank you for your patience. The kit contains fabric (external fabric not lining fabric), Threads for Embroidery and Beads. It does not include any cardboard or charms etc.
The kits are expensive to put together as a result we have a set a retail price at AU$380.00 ($407 US dollars)per kit.
Available from the 1st March.
We are also offering a 10 month subscription to the kit. When people subscribe to the kit, each month they get one project towards making up the kit. The monthly price is AU$44.95 ($48 US dollars). This is only offered directly through Country Bumpkin, so if your customers don’t want to pay for the kit up front you can direct them to contact us if they are interested in the subscription kit. If there is interest in the subscription kit they have to subscribe before the 1st of March, otherwise they will miss out.
So, that is it - if anyone is interested in purchasing the kit, let us know. If we can get 20 committed to the kit, I'll import them and that will cut down the shipping costs.
Here's our newest kit from Kacoonda. It is a pin bin. The finished size is approximately 7cms high by 10cms (2.75" x 4"). The kit includes the pattern with detailed instructions and photo, felt, ribbon, silk threads and patchwork fabric for trimming around the top. If it isn't on our website yet, just contact us via email. They sell for $35.
Please excuse the poor color quality in the second photograph. The top one is more accurate.
