It seems I got so busy sending out all the books and magazines that arrived last week, I neglected to post here that they did, indeed, arrive and have been sent out to everyone who pre-ordered. They are also now on our website, so check in there if you want one.
Here's a peak at the next issue due out the second week of January. I just love this hat!
Here's what else you will find in this issue:
BUTTERFLIES AND BEETLES
The first butterflies emerging from hibernation are definite signs of spring. A velour dress, a tunic, a jersey top, leggings, narrow-leg cargo pants, a poplin coat and a rose-trimmed hat for little girls. Retro-style overalls, sweatpants, a T-shirt and a hooded velour jacket for boys.
Children love hearing intriguing stories about life in bygone times while playing Indians. T-shirts, sweatpants, recycled jeans, a plaid shirt, tunics and hippie-style velveteen pants.
Fresh Scandinavian print patterns are inspiring and just perfect for baby clothes. Bodysuits, coveralls, jersey and velour pants, an apron dress and a jersey jacket. A quilted patchwork play mat and a colorful pennant bunting to pep up the baby’s bedroom.
SPRING IN DENIM
Denim looks always trendy and lends itself well to various casual spring clothes. A little denim skirt, recycled jeans and a ruffle skirt plus a polo shirt, two beautiful tunics and a T-shirt.

Ottobre generously offered us a 50 Euro (about US$70) gift card to be given away for use in their Etsy shop .
We mentioned this offer in our most recent newsletter and 20 Ottobre subscribers entered to win. In order to select the winner, we gave each entrant a number based on the order they entered the give-away. So the first one to sign up was number one, the next one was number two, etc. I then logged on to www.Random.org and entered numbers 1-20. The site randomly selected number 10 which turned out to be Sara Spofford - a long time Ottobre subscriber and an even longer time Wooly Thread newsletter reader. Congratulations Sara! I'll contact you with details.
We may just do this again, so keep reading our newsletter.

We now have some mohair embroidery thread in our inventory. Our current supply is limited, but we plan to add more as the demand for it increases. It is made in Australia by Kacoonda.
It feels sooooo soft to the touch as you embroider with it. If you have never used mohair embroidery thread, please send a self-addressed envelope and I'll send you a sample.
Here are the colors in stock - they should be on our website by the first of the month. In the meantime, if you want some, just let us know. Price: $3.50/skein (11 yards).
The identifying color numbers are (left to right)
001, 008, 033, 036, 049, 056, 059, 067, 068, 071, 073
We have decided to branch out a little more and are now the only North American stockist for Australia's "Kacoonda" products. You may be familiar with them via some Inspirations magazine projects.
Kacoonda produces hand-dyed variegated embroidery threads (wool and mohair) and ribbons, as well as, wool felt using only the best of natural fibers. Their threads and ribbons are hand-dyed in their own unique color range to produce exquisite embroidery products that will inspire and delight.
We are starting with their mohair threads and a pincushion kit "Floppy Feet" that will introduce you to a wide range of their product line, ie. their hand-dyed wool felt, ribbons, and threads.
Go to this link to see more details and pictures of this kit....
We have the kits and some mohair threads in stock. They will soon be on our website, but if you want one now (since we only ordered a few to start), contact us via email and we'll get it to you right away. Kit price: $59.
I'll post shortly the colors of mohair threads we currently have in stock.
Someone called here yesterday wanting to make the embroidered scarf on page 60 of the current (#72) issue of Inspirations. The pattern calls for navy blue linen, but she wanted to use wool. We don't normally have wool flannel in navy, but we do now. We only have a small amount left (about 2 yards) and it works really well for this pattern. If you are interested in making this design in wool rather than linen, let us know. It only requires about three-quarters of a yard.
For those of you who read Inspirations magazine, you've probably noticed the amazing project shown right inside the front cover - it's the "Home Sweet Home Embroidered Stitch Box" project book. We had several of you express an interest in getting this book, so we are having some sent over with our next shipment in December. Here's a little youtube presentation for you to see in case you want a little more information about this project. If you decide you want a copy for yourself, please let us know so we can be sure to get enough. There's no committment, we just need to know approximately how many to order. As far as I know, we're the only ones offering this new book on this side of the Pacific. Here's the link: you'll probably have to copy and paste to see it.
Our November newsletter is out. Here's the link.
It is always sent out on the first of every month and sent via email to our newsletter subscribers, but you can also read it here and on our website.
I am a huge chocolate fan and recently found a chocolate bar that 'gives back', so I was sold right away. I ordered a single bar to taste test and then ordered 3 cases of these bars, so I could offer them to you as well.
This one is made with all natural ingredients by the Seattle Chocolate Company in Seattle, USA. Inside is white chocolate with raspberry and a hint of lemon all wrapped in dark chocolate. A huge bonus is that 100% of the profits go to fight cancer.
This 2.5 ounce (70 gram) bar costs just $3 plus $2 shipping.
Send me an email if you want one - they will only be with us for a short time, so they are not going on the website.
I've been experimenting with some new project ideas using our very versatile wool felt. Here's the first one using a piece of our red felt .....it's a coaster that comes up around the base of the glass
To make this, thoroughly soak a piece of wool felt somewhat larger than the base of the glass. Then, with the glass upside down, put the wet felt on the base - pulling and stretching the felt until it forms to the base with no wrinkles or folds. Put a rubber band around the base to hold it firmly in place. Let it thoroughly dry and remove the rubber band. When the felt is dry, it will maintain its new shape. Cut the excess away by trimming around the line where the rubber band was. That's all there is to it - a quick and simple way to have a festive look this time of year and it's a great way to use those extra scraps of felt.
Ottobre Design has generously given us a full subscription to their magazine (both children's and women's issues for one year) to give away absolutely free to someone who does not already have a subscription. So, if you are the first to contact us about this and don't already have a subscription......it's yours. Be sure to mention you saw this offer on our blog and as soon as it is claimed, we'll post, so you'll know it is gone.
UPDATE: - this sub is now taken - thanks for reading. We'll try to do more of this in the future.
We managed to get just a few copies of the "Beating Around the Bush" brochure from Country Bumpkin. If you'd like to have one, let us know and we'll send it to you. It's 28 pages of beautiful photographs, course descriptions and daily schedules. Enrollment form is also included. Cost $8 - free shipping.
Yes, we are pleased to announce that we lowered the prices on the Ottobre Design magazines due to the change in the exchange rate between the US$ and the Euro. Good news for everyone. We here in the US and Canada get a lower price and Ottobre will in all likelihood sell more magazines as a result. Definitely a win-win situation.
We have a great Ottobre offer for you - today only.
For the next 24 hours only, anyone who subscribes or renews their Ottobre subscription with the new lower prices, will get a free copy of the children's summer issue 3/2011 sent to them or a friend absolutely free. So, subscribe or renew in the next 24 hours and we'll send a free copy of this pictured issue to the person of your choice.
An added bonus is that the exchange rate with the Euro has improved recently, so we have been able to lower our prices for Ottobre Design magazines! They should be posted on our website shortly, but in the meantime, when you order, we'll make the adjustment to the lower price.
Contact us by email, phone or our website and we'll get the free magazine on its way tomorrow. Remember this offer of the free magazine is only good for the next 24 hours.
Pricing: 4-issue (children's only) subscription is now $60 6-issue (women's and children's) subscription is $78 2-issue (women's only) subscription is $22

We have been having a terrible time getting the Appleton colors we need recently. I finally tracked down the problem. It seems that the man who oversees the Appleton dying process died, so there was a break in production. They even closed down production for a short time. They are back at work now, but very backlogged - or so I've been told. Some colors have been sold out for months. I've been ordering from anywhere I can find so that your orders can be filled. I've exhausted all US suppliers and have now placed an order from England. It ends up costing more than I charge you, so I needed to find another solution..........and I did. I'm now ordering the colors we need in hanks and breaking them down into skeins myself. It is very laborious and time consuming, but it will enable me to get you the colors you need for your projects, especially the new Talliaferro designs. Some of the colors needed for that project have also sold out throughout the US. Your orders may arrive later than expected, but you will get all the colors you need for your projects. The packaging will be a little differnt, but the thread is the same. Thanks for your understanding and patience. ************* Also want to say that the newest ASE #95 finally arrived, albeit it a bit late. Those mags are in the mail on their way to those who subscribe or pre-ordered.
Here's some feedback from one of the first people to receive the new Royal Persian Blossom design "I just got it, and it is even more beautiful in person. I can't wait to start stitching it."
If this big one seems a bit too daunting, try one of the smaller extrapolations first. We've gotten our shipment of these 3 smaller designs and they are ready to go. Read more about them in our current newsletter:
Our gorgeous design has arrived! Pre-orders will be in the mail tomorrow. If you didn't pre-order and want one, they are $30 for the design and instructions. If you want the Appleton needed to complete the project it is $25. Contact us directly since the information is not yet on our website.
We just managed to get a few more back issues of Inspirations magazine to offer you. We now have issues #14, #34, #39 and #41,to go along with the other back issues we already had listed: #25, #29, #40, and #42. They are all in our ebay store. If you are interested - get them now. These old ones go quickly.
If you read our newsletter, you saw the gorgeous new crewel project we are offering. This project will be available later this month. You get the pattern and very extensive instruction packet. We have the crewel wool available in a package ready to ship along with it for $25, if you so desire. We are taking pre-orders starting today. Let us know if you are interested. The pattern package is $30, but if you order before June 1st, it is $28. It's not yet on our website.
P.S. - if you are interested in doing this project, just send me an email: firstname.lastname@example.org

Issue #94 of this highly acclaimed publication arrives today. We ordered lots of extra copies this time, since we seem to keep running out of copies. Subscriber and drop ship orders will be in the mail this afternoon.
We just got some samples of the various wool blanketing fabrics from the mill in Australia we mentioned in our March 3rd posting. We won't be ordering for re-sale, since the exchange rate, shipping charges, and profit margin just don't make it feasible, but we have arranged with the mill in Australia to connect you directly to them so you can get the best price if you want to buy wool blanketing fabric. They sent us samples to show you if you are interested. If you'd like a sample of wool blanketing in off-white, black, or green, or if you'd like a sample of off- white cashmere velour (on the top in the picture), send us a self-addressed envelope and we'll get it out to you along with contact information on where to order. Our mailing address is: The Wooly Thread, 8850 Coolidge Rd, Yakima, WA 98903. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Remember these back issues from 2002 and 2003? Issue 34 has the little mice eating the apple core on a wool blanket and the little girl with the 'dalmation' coat. Issue 39 has the 10-page embroidered book about the little mouse entitled: "Des Fleurs pour Grandmere". Of course, both issues have lots of other projects, but these are the ones I remember best from when these magazines were first released. We managed to get just a few copies of both. They sell for $14 each which includes the postage. They won't be on our website, but if they aren't taken in the next few days, I'll post them on Ebay. Be sure to let us know if you want one.
Here's some information about the next Ottobre Design issue coming out next month:
OTTOBRE design® Kids 3/2011 Summer will be published on April 15th, 2011.
The issue includes themes
PIRATES AND MERMAIDS: Summer rompers, bodysuits and dresses. Also a cute little baby collection from jersey. *** NAUTICALLY INSPIRED: The special-occasion apparel for the summer is inspired by maritime themes. Dresses, skirts, tops, pants and shirts for children of various ages *** COLOUR SPLASH: We'll publish some of the entries and winning design from our 10th anniversary contest. The youngest entry was submitted by a four-year-old designer. Great ideas for appliqués and embroidery, lots of cheerful colors.
We've been working with a woolen mill in Australia trying to work out some sort of arrangement so we could import the Australian wool blanketing in order to make it available to you. Unfortunately, it just isn't going to work out for us to do that, primarily due to the very high shipping rates. For the quantity we were ordering it would have been more than $25 a yard just for postage.
However..........there is some good news here. Although this is a wholesale company, we've arranged for you to be able to order from them directly, since we couldn't make this deal work out any other way. You can now order wool blanket fabrics from this mill directly. They are the ones who make most of the wool fabrics for Inspirations magazine. They have the cashmere velour, the colored blanketing so often seen in the magazine and a variety of other wool fabrics.
If you are intestested in ordering, let us know and we'll pass along the contact information for you.
For those of you who do silk ribbon embroidery, here's a deal for you. Creative Smocking in Oregon is selling off their entire inventory of YLI silk ribbon and offering 30% off while supplies last. It's no coincidence that the cover of the current Inspirations magazine shows a silk ribbon project with 3 more projects inside. Here's the link:
Here's the most recent information we have about this newest issue, which is to be released later this month. I should have a cover picture to post shortly...............
