Felted Wool Ornaments

Here are a couple of felted wool ornaments I recently made. The smaller ones are wet felted wool dipped in a food coloring and water solution. This a great projects to do with children since no needles are used.

The larger ornament is also wet felted but then some our wool felt and Appleton crewel wool has been needle felted to the wet felted ball. The decorative possibilities are endless.

Country Bumpkin Magazines Updates

Country Bumpkin just sent out their newsletter stating:
"Just a reminder that the magazines are no longer available from newstands."
That means you must get a subscription in order to get the magazine.
We offer subscriptions and also a 'drop ship' option, which means you sign up to get the magazines sent to you as they are released. You pay only for one magazine at a time and only when it is released.
They also note in their newsletter that they haven't sent out Inspirations 68 to their subscribers yet. If you normally like to pick up your magazine at a retailer, that option is now gone according to what they've posted, so don't be disappointed - sign up to get yours. You can do that on our website or via email.
Here's a link to the Country Bumpkin webletter for more details:

Fun Project - Wool Ball Ornaments

We recently found another way to use the very versatile wool roving. Not only can it be needle felted into a myriad at shapes, but it can also we wet felted. I'm including a couple of links to felting projects you might find of interest. The first is a link to the instructions on how to make these needle felted ornaments shown above.
by Joann's Fabrics:

The other project is for wet felting balls. These wet felted balls can be used as toys, beads, ornaments or even dryer balls. This can be a fun project to do with children, too, since the wet felting process does not use any needles.
This link is courtesy of Martha Stewart:

Note: I've used both these techniques and my personal favorite is to wet felt the initial ball and then needle felt a design on the ball using a different color roving, some wool felt and/or some wool yarn.
One ounce of our wool roving makes one wet felted ball about the size of a tennis ball. An ounce can also make 8-10 smaller wet felted balls measuring approximately 1+ inch in diameter.
We'll have more information and other new projects using wet felting in our December newsletter.

Delays

I just got word that the postal system in Finland in on strike - it seems it isn't totally shut down, just slower. For us that means our Ottobre magazines may take a little longer to arrive.

Also got word this morning that the internet system at Country Bumpkin is not working at all. No one there can receive or send messages. If you are trying to get a response - as am I - please just be patient. I was expecting tracking info for the latest shipment of Inspirations and couldn't get anyone there to respond. Now I know why.

I'll post more details as I get them.
